Not All Mushroom Products Are the Same

Mushrooms, mushroom-derived compounds, and undisclosed synthetic mixtures are not interchangeable. Neither are the companies behind them.

What Laboratory Testing Found

  • FDA testing found that products sold under the same mushroom brand did not always contain the same compounds, even across samples of the same product type and flavor.

  • Testing identified substances including:

    • Acetylpsilocin, also known as 4-AcO-DMT

    • Psilocin, a Schedule I controlled substance

    • Pregabalin, a prescription drug

    • Muscimol and ibotenic acid

    • Multiple kavalactones

  • The issue was not simply that a product had an effect. The issue was that consumers could not reliably know what they were consuming.
